“I know I am new / I’m not the same as you / I do represent a very different view. / I stand for what’s right / not might but the light. / There’re many like me / no longer out of sight.” This stanza, sung by Esther (Zalyzza Govia) is one of the most powerful emotional moments in the musical.

Esther is at the Talent Stadium after-party, and all around her clerks gossip about whether someone like her deserves her new VP title. Esther confronts them head-on, refusing to shrink or apologize. She closes the number owning her identity fully: “I know who I am / where I’m from / where I stand.”
