One of the most fascinating parts of our theatre journey has actually been… the journey itself. If you’ve been following us for a while (or if you’ve been going through the website) you know the backstory already: Randall got leukemia, then wrote Who Is Esther over seven months while receiving treatment at the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre. The musical went through a number of development cycles, and then had it’s world premiere at the Fringe Festival in Kingston, Ontario. It’s an amazing (and inspiring) story, and it should be told. As part of our pitch at the TIFF last month, we created a four-minute sizzle reel that captures our backstory.
We are pitching two documentaries that have our backstory (and the musical) as its spine:
- “The Care That Made Miracles Happen”: chronicles Linda’s journey as a caregiver. It will be an eight episode web series.
- BELIEVE: The Making of Who Is Esther”: chronicles the musical’s backstory from Leukemia to the world premiere in Kingston. This will be a feature-length documusical.
As part of our presentation at the theatre conference, we will be sharing the sizzle reel there as well. And we are also sharing it here for the first time too.
