The Fringe Journey (Toronto, Hamilton Kingston)

We Got Into Fringe. Just Took the Scenic Route to Get There.

Since 2018, we’ve been submitting Who Is Esther to the Toronto Fringe Festival. Every December, the same result: lottery not in our favour.

The Toronto Fringe is unjuried meaning no one evaluates your work. Your fate is literally a draw. Interesting in principle. Frustrating in practice.

This past December, rejected again. So we pivoted and submitted to both Hamilton and Kingston Fringe. Kingston said yes.

This musical was never going to sit on a shelf. It was written during Randall’s leukemia treatment, born out of a moment that demanded something be created from it. Everything since has unfolded in its own time: the development, the rewrites, the pandemic pause, the studio recordings. Each step exactly when it needed to happen.

Who Is Esther makes its world premiere at the Kingston Fringe Festival, August 2026. It waited for the right moment. Turns out, this is it.
