I want to share one of the biggest misconceptions I had when I first started writing this musical: I was so sure it was good after I wrote it.
Then, I started to get feedback. The feedback was an eye-opener. The number of times it was rewritten, the number of songs that were discarded, and new songs written – musically moving from just a solo singer to one where there’s this counterpoint back and forth or some interesting harmonies just to explore the emotions behind a particular scene – it’s at the point right now where it really needs to get onto a stage.
When I say ‘get onto a stage’, I don’t think the work is ever done. But what it does mean is that maybe for the first time, people will hear a powerful story that resonates, on many dimensions.
